My First post: You got to Start something somewhere

Do you have a dream or an idea that has been sitting in your mind for ages? You have incubated it for months, possibly years in your brain and have done nothing to get it out there in real life. Your idea seems cool in your head but so much seems at risk if you actually try and do something in real life. What if it doesn’t work out? What if you look like an idiot? Who do you think you are to do this? What could possibly happen if you just stepped out and did something?

While you do nothing,  you start seeing others not only have the same idea as you but are actually  taking the steps to make the idea a reality. Now there is even more reasons not to start your idea. You don’t want to look like you are a copy cat and now there is competition and comparison. So the idea stays in your head and you do nothing.

If this is you right now, I’m here to encourage you to get your idea out of your head and get your idea out there in the world. START SOMETHING SOMEWHERE TODAY.

I have watched so many people start something and succeed.  I’ve seen clothing brands grow from selling on a trestle table at a mini pop up market, to securing a deal with a major retail chain. I’ve seen people diligently create content on social media and then grow into experts on TV. I have seen people organise events (where the people attending were mostly supportive friends and family members) and through commitment cultivate a thriving community. These people simply started something small and with their imperfections they stuck at it and it grew into something amazing.

I am finally starting the LOVE HEALTH FITNESS blog It’s been an idea too long in my head. I’m starting something somewhere and this is my first post. Come and join me and start your idea too.

HOW TO START SOMETHING SOMEWHERE

1. Take some time out and write down exactly what you want to do. Be bold and confident with yourself, this is your dream, no one needs to know about it right now. Be honest with yourself and write your vision down. If you are not completely sure, embark on a journey to discover and articulate what you would like to do. Don’t rush this process or compare yourself to others who are starting something. This is your life,  it make take time.

2. When you know what you want to do, write down the steps you need to take to get there. If you don’t know, ask other people who have experience that is helpful. Do some research, look at what others (who have gone before you)  have done to succeed.  Check out resources that provide tips, knowledge and advice.

3.  Don’t compare yourself to what you see out there already. Try not to compare your baby idea to someone who has established themselves much longer than you. They were once like you with their baby idea. However they took a risk, stepped out and developed their baby idea into something bigger. You can do this too. Just focus on your process.

4.  Break your giant leaps into small steps if you need to. If taking big leaps into the unknown seems overwhelming, break it up into something manageable.  Achieving something small is better than achieving nothing at all. Get the ball rolling with your idea. As you gain more time, experience and confidence, you will get bigger and be even more successful.

5.  Start when you are not perfect. In fact you will never be perfect. Start messy, start when you feel you are completely winging it, start when you lack all the resources, start if you are all by yourself you do not have support from others. As you move forward you will gain what you need along the way.

6.  Start somewhere. Are you waiting for everything to be right before you start? Are you waiting for a website to get done or have your brand message and colours down before you do something? Don’t dilly dally and wait for conditions to be perfect. Just start somewhere in your project to get the dream out of your head into reality. For example, don’t start producing once someone influential is able to give you a break.  Get started now on your craft while no one is interested so when you meet that person who can hook you up and change your life you already have something to show them.

Remember everyone who has ever done something started somewhere. You can do it too. So what are you waiting for? Start your idea today.
